The world is changing...

Before we jump into the topic of the day, I just want to say thanks to all of you that decided to stick around during this insanely long gap between emails.

It's been over a year since the last Sunday Upgrade went out. A lot has changed in that time that required my complete focus and energy.

I've gone to work at a new company, built a new business with the help of my oldest daughter, almost died, helped a few people get back on their feet after a layoff, and learned a lot of hard lessons along the way.

I'll share more about this stuff in the coming weeks and months, but today, it's all about adapting to the changing world.

If you haven't noticed yet, the world is rapidly changing. Technology advancements are accelerating at light-speed and most of humanity is being left in the dust.

AI has a higher IQ than the average person, and it's still early. Humanoid robots are starting be work in factories and fold laundry in homes. It won't be long before humanoid robots are building other humanoid robots. You can even code applications with AI without knowing how to write any code. I know because I'm doing it.

Quantum computing is quietly making it's way into the enterprise space as well. The applications for using quantum computers are infinite. As are the problems that it will cause. Like breaking all classical encryption algorithms currently in existence. This is the world I work in and I can tell you with 100% certainty that companies are not ready for this. We are going to see massive breaches of critical information like we've never seen before. Let's just say 2027 might be a crazy year.

And the changes are just getting started.

We can see the impact already. Major corporations are laying people off left and right. Some say it's because of AI advancements, some say it's "right-sizing" after Covid. Either way, the nature of work and employment is changing. And there's no stopping this train. It's gonna hit us and we need to be prepared to deal with the aftermath.

To do that, you need a personal business. The "business of you" is going to be critical as we move forward into this new world. Entire industries will be replaced by AI and robotics. You need to be prepared and adapt to that new reality.

I know entrepreneurship isn't right for everyone, but when you think about it, everyone is already their own business. Most of us just sell our services to a single customer (our employer) and when that customer churns (fires us or we quit), we go out seeking a new customer.

You upgrade your skills (product) so you can sell more to your customer and charge them a higher price (your salary).

So you see, we're all owners of personal businesses already. We just need to create products and services that we can scale out to more customers.

That's where an actual business comes in.

Whether it's offering your skills out as a consultant or selling products online, there's a personal business model out there for everyone.

Having a personal business is not optional if you want to survive and thrive in the new world.

It's mandatory.

And you need to start now.
