Sometimes you just need to start over.
Is it time to start over?Last week, I spent a few days at a cabin near where I live. In spite of it's closeness to everything, it felt like I was in the middle of nowhere. The campground was nearly empty (it was mid-week in September after all), the weather was perfect, and there was zero chaos. My life had been nothing but chaos for a long time. Manageable, but chaotic. I needed some time to let my brain slow TF down and learn how to function without constant bombardment from life. I went out there with a plan to do a bunch of writing, get business objectives organized, read a couple books, and just really focus on getting some shit done without distraction. And guess what? None of that happened. I didn't even open my laptop until the last day and that was just to handle some important time sensitive personal stuff. So what did happen? A whole lot of wondering if it's time for me to start over. I have been working on quite a few things over the last year or so, but nothing every got to the point where it should be. So as I'm walking around the trails through the woods, I thought about all the things I have been doing and evaluating whether they are worth continuing. I thought about whether it was time to just start over fresh and take an entirely new direction with everything I'm doing. Everything was on the chopping block, including this Newsletter. Ultimately, I decided that keeping this newsletter going was something important that I needed to keep working on, but not without some serious thought. That's why this is a Monday Upgrade... I needed to be sure I wanted to continue with this instead of starting over fresh. Everything was evaluated to make sure it was worth sticking with, stopping completely, or just starting over fresh. Some things made it, some things got cut, and some things I'm just gonna start over with. Knowing when to start over can be quite a challenge. You spend countless hours working on something you feel is important to you, only to discover that things just aren't going the way you had envisioned. The sunk cost is so high that you feel like you need to just keep going to make it all feel like it was worth it. Newsflash. It's not worth it if it isn't moving you closer to your goals. And that's the key when trying to determine if you need to just start over. If something has gotten so far off track that it no longer gets you closer to your goals, it's time for a change. A lot of what I had been working had collected so much extra baggage and waste that I wasn't even sure what the point of all of it was anymore. Everything got bloated with "awesome ideas" and scope creep to the point where I couldn't even recognize what the hell it was supposed to be. Things were just completely out of whack and not going down any real path. They were just endless piles of shit to do that I wasn't sure why I was doing it anymore. So I decided to make the tough decision and cut my losses before things got any worse. It's time to realign my activities and focus on what will help me reach my goals. It's time to start over. -John Not sure if you're still going in the right direction? Thinking about starting over? Book a quick chat using the link below and I'll help you out.
